What we know about Riga's housing

Pest problems in Riga are not random — they are largely set by the building types and their services.

  • In Soviet-era apartment blocks the decisive factor is shared ventilation and pipe shafts. Cockroaches and bedbugs move between apartments through them, mostly vertically up and down a single riser. Treating one apartment without a barrier at those crossing points gives a short-lived result — and that is not a question of treatment quality.
  • In the older pre-war stock with timber floors and wide partition voids the problems are different: more harbourages, harder access, and woodworm more often.
  • In houses around Riga almost everything comes in from outside — ants from a nest in the garden, wasps under the roof, earwigs and spiders from leaf litter against the wall. Treatment there is incomplete without the building perimeter.

Why insects only

Most companies in Latvia offer several kinds of treatment at once. We chose a different route — insect pest control only.

The reason is practical. Every species has its own biology, development cycle, harbourages and the one method that works against it. Bedbugs and cockroaches need completely different approaches although both are insects. Pantry moths and clothes moths need different approaches although both are moths.

Focusing on one field lets us know those differences in depth rather than covering several fields superficially.

What that means in practice

  • We identify the species precisely. The method depends on it, and a wrong identification means an ineffective treatment.
  • We look for the source. The insects you can see are usually 5–10% of the population.
  • We choose the method to suit the situation — not whichever is quickest for us.
  • We say when treatment isn't needed. Ladybirds and cluster flies that come in each autumn don't breed indoors and disappear on their own.

What we don't do

We do not carry out rodent control and we do not treat premises against micro-organisms. Those are different services with different expertise.

If your problem is insects, we will solve it. If it is something else, it is more honest to say so upfront.

This specialisation is a deliberate choice, not a limitation we are apologising for.

How we choose a method

The choice is not a standard procedure — three things decide it in each property.

  • The species. With bedbugs the eggs are decisive, so heat treatment or a residual product works. With cockroaches it is the colony structure, so gel bait. With ants it is the queen in the nest, so bait rather than spraying. For large spaces, ULV fogging.
  • The property. In food premises some methods are not permitted. In a hotel what matters is how fast the room returns to service. In a care home, being able to work zone by zone.
  • Your situation. Children, pets, allergies, an aquarium or a pregnancy can change the method entirely.

If you have a preference or a constraint, say so in the form. If it isn't technically possible in your case we will tell you and explain why — rather than agreeing and then doing something else.

Being honest about the limits

In pest control there are things that cannot honestly be promised, and we don't promise them.

If you have bedbugs but the colony survives in a neighbouring apartment, no treatment guarantees they won't return — we can destroy what is in your property and make re-entry harder. If we treat grounds against mosquitoes, they will fly in from the neighbouring plot. If there are fleas but the animal is not treated in parallel by a vet, treating the property alone will not work.

We say this before the work, not after. It sometimes makes for a more awkward conversation, but it lets you decide knowing the real situation.

How to reach us

Contact happens through the enquiry form. Fill it in with your phone number — we reply within 5 minutes and call you to confirm the situation and arrange a time.

The detail in the form is not a formality: it lets us prepare properly before setting off. It helps to say which room you see the insects in, how long they have been there, roughly what area is affected, and whether there are children, pets or allergies.

We work in Riga and the surrounding area, weekends and urgent callouts included. Prices are on the prices page.

Frequently asked questions

We do pest control for insects only. That narrow focus lets us know each species' biology and the methods that work against it in depth, rather than covering several trades superficially.
Rodent control and disinfection are different services with different methods, products and expertise. We don't specialise in them, and taking on work we aren't best at wouldn't be honest.
