Pest control for businesses

For a business a pest problem is not just an inconvenience. It is a risk at inspection, to your reputation and to business continuity. In B2B work the result, the timing and the documentation all matter equally.

What a business needs differently

Compared with a private customer, three additional factors are usually critical for a business.

  • Business continuity. The treatment must not create downtime, so we work after hours, at night or at weekends.
  • Documentation. In food handling and production you need a demonstrable process, not just the fact that a treatment happened.
  • Discretion. Visible pest control work in front of customers and staff is itself a reputational matter.

Sectors we work in most often

Restaurants and cafes, shops and retail centres, hotels and hostels, warehouses and logistics sites, food and packaging production, offices, educational and care settings, and the shared areas of blocks of flats.

Each has its own constraints — see the relevant page under properties. What differs between them is rarely the insect and almost always the timing, the documentation and what can be moved.

Note that we carry out insect control only. We do not carry out rodent control or disinfection, so if your requirements cover those they need a separate provider.

What to expect from the first survey

  1. 1

    Walk-through.

We look at the production or service flow, not just the rooms: where goods come in, where waste goes out, where food and moisture sit.

  2. 2

    Risk zones mapped.

The specific points where a problem would start, and where monitoring belongs.

  3. 3

    Findings discussed on site.

Including the structural or housekeeping issues that treatment cannot fix.

  4. 4

    Proposal.

A one-off treatment or a servicing schedule, with the scope and the documentation stated.

The survey is where most of the useful information comes from. A quote given without one is a guess.

Getting started, billing and cost

Fill in the enquiry form stating the type of premises, the approximate floor area and the situation. We reply within 5 minutes, arrange a survey, and afterwards prepare a proposal — for a one-off treatment or for regular servicing.

For businesses we work by invoice, with the terms agreed before the work starts. For sites on regular servicing we prepare records of the work carried out and the monitoring data for inspections and audits.

Commercial premises are quoted after a survey, because floor area, the number of zones and the risk level differ far too much to set a single published figure.

Why B2B work is planned differently

The technical work is largely the same as in a home. Everything around it is not.

  • The timing is dictated by your operation. A restaurant is treated after service, a shop after closing, a warehouse between shifts, an office at the weekend. That is normal for us and it should not attract a premium in inconvenience to you.
  • The scope includes places nobody thinks of as rooms. Goods-in areas, bin stores, plant rooms, service voids and loading bays are where problems start, and treating only the visible areas is how a site ends up on a cycle of repeat call-outs.
  • The output includes a record. For a private customer, the outcome is the absence of insects. For a business, the outcome is the absence of insects plus evidence that you manage the risk, because the second one is what an inspector, an auditor or a corporate client actually asks to see.

Common mistakes we see

Four patterns account for most of the businesses that end up on a cycle of repeat call-outs.

  • Treating only the visible area. The problem lives in the plant room, the void or the bin store, and the dining room gets treated.
  • Reacting instead of scheduling. Every emergency visit is a larger job than a planned one, and between visits the population rebuilds from the same source.
  • Staff spraying shop products first. With cockroaches this scatters the colony deeper into the building and into adjoining units, turning one treatment into three.
  • Ignoring what the report says. Almost every report we write lists a structural or housekeeping cause. Treatments repeated over an unfixed leak or an unsealed goods-in door are money spent on the symptom.

None of these are unusual, and none are difficult to change once someone owns the decision.
